Feed The Souls Food Pantry

Feed the souls food pantry is a community-based food pantry that is open the second Saturday of every month. We provide canned goods, hygiene, and perishable items for over 70 families. There are many volunteer opportunities with this ministry.  Our food pantry is open on the second Saturday of the month to distribute food. Bethel, along with several other churches in our area, collect food during the month for the Pantry. The Pantry is open on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 8:30 a.m until noon.  Contact: Christina Hall, Chairperson

Just wanted to thank the Bethel community for their support of the food pantry. Our February pantry will be on February 10, 2018 from 8:00 am-12:00 pm . The pantry set up will be February 9, 2018 starting at 10:00 am, If you would like to come and help we would appreciate it. Donations can be made to the grocery carts at the church or as a monetary donation. A monetary donation is easier for us to handle since we can purchase the food that we are low on and do not have to check the dates. The pantry will accept donations of deer meat as long as it has come from a processor who is licensed.

A story from our last food pantry might interest you. We have a client who started out with us when we were at Pine Bluff. she does not drive due to health problems but always managed to get to the pantry. When we moved the pantry to Bethel UMC we lost track of her for almost a year. When she finally came back she had moved in with her son in the Midland area. When she started back each month she brought me a check for $10.00 as a donation to the pantry. Try as I might I could not get her to take the check back. This past month she handed me $5.00. Her comment was " I only have $6.00 in my checking account but I want you to have this money." It reminded me of the widow who gave what she could. Our pantry is blessed not only by the people who donate, and volunteer, but by the clients who allow us to serve them.

We hope that the church and community will continue to support our effort to feed the people who greatly bless each of us. Come and join us and watch God work.

It's that time of the year again. We are collecting boxes (or bags) for the families who come to the Feed The Souls Food Pantry. This year we are trying to make it easier, and are offering boxes With the instructions attached. The boxes can be found on the stage in Asbury Hall. Please take a box and fill prior to Friday, December 8th at 10am. This will allow the set-up group to check all the boxes and organize them prior to the pantry. If you would like to contribute financially, please clarify on your contribution "Christmas Box" and we will use the donations to package some ourselves. The estimated cost is $25.00 per box when shopping at Aldi. We have consistently been serving over 70 families every month, so we are asking for 70-80 boxes this year. By filling one of these boxes you can make Christmas a little brighter for these special people. Thank you for your contribution toward this ministry. Please place the following items inside the box:

2 cans corn • 2 cans green beans or greens • 1 can sweet peas
1 can sweet potatoes/carrots • 1 can beans • 1 can cranberry sauce • 2 cans fruit
Mac & cheese • 1 boxed dessert • 1 box bread mix (biscuit cornbread)
2 cans meat (ham or chicken) • 1 can or jar of gravy
1 box instant potatoes • 1 box of stuffing mix
2 hygiene items (shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush)
1 paper product (4 toilet paper rolls or 1-2 paper towel rolls)

November was busy!!! We served 80 families!!! We were able to raffle off quilts, a small bike, turkeys, and chickens(donated from the Missions Committee). Thanks to everyone who donated both food and financially and those that gave their time throughout this month. This is a growing ministry and requires a lot of dedicated people to make it work. You can see in the pictures that it was very busy but with the help we had today we were able to get through everyone in 3 hours!! The free medical clinic was also busy today and they continue to grow and help those with health/medical needs. I have posted pictures of the shelves now. As you can see we really need to restock a lot of items before December 10th. I will list the items under every picture and there is a sign in asbury hall that has all our needs listed. Please remember that book bags of love is housed in the pantry and they are now packing for 20 students!!! We will be sending out the list for Christmas boxes..we are hoping to collect 80 boxes this year! Thanks and God Bless!

GOD IS GOOD! I knew God would provide for this pantry but I am still in amazement of how He reached out to so many people! The pictures below shows the pantry on Tuesday of this week (just 4 days ago) on the top and the pantry today (bottom). Words cannot begin to describe how appreciative we are to all those at Bethel UMC, the Midland and surrounding community, Metrolina Produce, Piedmont Produce, Sam's club, Mill Grove UMC, and CCM. We had over 3,000 pounds of food/produce/hygiene items donated with over 2,500 of those pounds in the past four days! Thank you so much! We provided for 61 families and even have some saved for the next pantry!! Below there is a picture of the Food Pantry Needs board. Please feel free to save this picture and help restock these areas that are low! Hygiene, paper, cleaning, laundry, and baby products are not listed but they are always needed! Thanks again for your contribution to this ministry! May God bless each and every one of you! I wanted to send a special thank you to Kathy Ratliff Kitts...you have supported this ministry from the beginning and your help this week is a big reason we had enough food for the families. Thank you from the Feed The Souls Food Pantry committee and Bethel UMC!

Feed The Souls Food Pantry Update:
March was another great month for the pantry. We provided for 66 families, totaling over 4,800 pounds of food given out. We collected 68 Easter boxes and had enough Bibles to give each family! Words cannot express how appreciative we are of your ongoing support and contributions to this ministry. We also want to give a special thank you to all the volunteers that help run the pantry throughout the entire month. Between February and March we had over 35 volunteers contribute over 180 hours. The pantry would not be possible without the help of so many people!

IMPORTANT UPDATE: We will no longer be collecting any items that are not packaged in a box, container, or can. As we continue to focus on cleanliness and organization of the pantry, it is very important that we make sure all items are secure and prevent the possibility of little creatures! Rice and instant potatoes will be properly secured in containers but all other items that would be donated for the miscellaneous shelf will be discarded. Please keep in mind the clients are only allowed to get 3-4 items from all the miscellaneous items and all the hygiene items, therefore be mindful of the items you donate. Suggested items would include: all bottled condiments, cooking supplies (oils, flour, etc), canned six-packs, and boxed desserts.
We also want to remind those that donate clothing, to please donate only GENTLY USED or NEW items. We should be mindful of the clothing that we are donating to the families. All clothing will be looked over and organized on the Friday before the pantry. All items that are ripped or dirty will be donated to a local organization and will not be available to the pantry clients. Please look your clothes over before donating them to help decrease the amount of work our volunteers are spending on clothing.

I LOVE MY CITY will be featuring Feed The Souls Food Pantry. We are hoping to collect over 1000 cans for the pantry. Please pass along to the community that we will be available on Saturday April 23rd from 9am to 2pm to collect food for the pantry.

Clothing donations: Many people have asked about donating clothes for the families that attend the food pantry. I wanted to update everyone on the process to donate clothing. In order to prevent the pantry or even Asbury Hall from becoming a clothing closet, we ask that if you have new or gently used men's, women's, or children's clothing please bring them to Asbury Hall on the Friday immediately prior to the pantry day (typically the second Friday of the month). Please bring the clothing folded or on hangers and place them on the stage by 3:30 pm. This will allow the Friday Set-up Group to organize all the clothing. Any clothing that is leftover on Saturday will be available for you to pick back up by 12 or we will donate it to a local clothing organization. Another fantastic day of serving those in our community. I have to share what one of the clients said to me with tears in her eyes..."You have no idea how much I look forward to this day. You all are my friends." I told her how much we look forward to seeing her as well but how much we would love to see her on Sunday. And the response I got was something I've heard too many times..."I don't have clothes to wear to church." I am very thankful for a church that doesn't judge others based on their appearance. I was able to make her feel welcomed to Bethel, no matter what she wore! Today we were able to serve 67 families and give out over 3,000 pounds of food. We were very blessed to give each family a jug of homemade laundry detergent, thank you Emma Steiner Glosson. We also had four tables full of clothes that were gone very quickly! Due to a large donation from CCM, we still have a lot of items. I will post the list of items we are in need of soon! Thank you for your continued support towards this ministry! ... See MoreSee Less
