Senior Pastor Position Description
Position Title: Senior Pastor
Status: Full-Time
Reports To: Session, Board of Elders and Board of Deacons
Position Summary:
The Senior Pastor will provide spiritual, pastoral, and servant leadership to the congregation of Bethel Church of Midland so the congregation might fulfill its mission to connect the lost to life in Christ. The Senior Pastor will recognize the importance of spiritual health and the significance of one’s personal relationship with God. The Senior Pastor will be compassionate in recognizing and meeting the needs of others and seeks to widen our relationships in the Midland community and surrounding areas. Lastly, the Senior Pastor of Bethel Church will be one who is duly called, ordained, and is enjoined in the following scripture. “He must hold firmly the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.” Titus 1:9
Worship:
- Conduct worship by providing scripture based sermons each week that enable individuals to receive the word of God.
- Plan, in partnership with the Music Director and Staff, all elements of regular worship services.
- Prepare and lead, along with church staff, all special worship events of the Church: i.e. Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Thanksgiving, Communion, and any other special services that are required.
Spiritual Growth:
- Lead our congregation into a deeper relationship with God through preaching, teaching, and counsel.
- Work with staff, members of Session, and leadership committees to ensure that the Church is provided with opportunities to participate in discipleship, prayer, and Bible study.
- Encourage, by word and example, the congregation to be involved in hands-on service opportunities within and beyond the Church and give of their time, talents, and resources in service to God.
Pastoral Care:
- Provide pastoral care and counsel in conjunction with staff and members of Session, to families, guests, and homebound as needed.
- Visit nursing homes, long-term care facilities, hospitals and pray with our congregation before surgeries and during their stay.
- Make appropriate referrals and respond to crisis situations that may arise in the congregation and community.
Outreach:
- Engage new visitors and encourage them to take an active role in the church.
- Collaborate with our Youth Director to develop methods to reach more youth within our church and community.
- Oversee and support our mission ministries and encourage the congregation to take an active role in the various mission opportunities of our church.
Administration:
- Oversee all aspects and personnel of the church including Members of Session, staff, and committees.
- Build a sense of teamwork among church staff, hold and/or attend regular meetings to coordinate ministries, and facilitate church communication.
- Seek opportunities to interact and share the word of God with our preschool and Bethel Learning Center teachers and students.
Professional Qualification:
Required Education/Experience:
- Ordained with a Masters in Divinity or equivalent degree
- 8+ years experience in ministry as an Associate Pastor, Youth Pastor, and/or leadership role in ministry
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Experience with local missions, ex: food pantry ministry, school ministry, etc
- Experience with church focused educational programs for pre-k and school aged children
- Volunteer or Community Engagement experience in local organizations outside the church
